Description ~~~~~~~~~~~ This is PCast for the Buffalo TeraStation. PCast is a media server that can be used in conjunction with the Buffalo Linktheater media player. A number of other types of player as also compatible. Note that this is NOT the DMLA compatible Media Server that is included on the Terastation Home Server. That is covered by copyright and Buffalo pay a license fee for it, so it has not been deemed advisable to make that available as an upgrade on the other TeraStation models. It is intended for us primarily with the TeraStation Pro which does not include a media server as standard functionality. When this release is used on a teraStation pro, the binaries are installed, and the PCast option is added to the Buffalo Web GUI. It also includes some fixes for pages on other TeraStation models (the original TeraStation and the TeraStation Home Server). In the latest versions of the firmware for theses models, a small error has crept into the XML for the PCast pages which results in an incorrect display of the time on the PCast menu pages and this can cause the page to be distorted and function incorrectly. On these models the binaries are not installed, but the fixes are installed. Change History ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2007-04-05 - First release made available 2007-05-07 - Install changed to not install binaries on none-pro models - Included alternate them (kdw). Installation ~~~~~~~~~~~~ The PCast update is provided as a ZIP file. This ZIP file should be unzipped to a folder on your Terastation. This PCast upgrade is then installed by establishing a telnet connection to your TeraStation; logging in with root access; changing to the directory where you put the unzipped files and issuing the command ./Update_PCast.sh This will install the relevant files for this release. Removal ~~~~~~~ There is no automated removal process. If you want to remove this release of PCast then you will have to reflash the firmware in your TeraStation which will reset everything back to its initial state. If you have applied any other updates since you last flashed your TeraStation that you want to keep, then these will need to be re-applied. Alternate Themes ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For those who would like to try out an alternate theme, I have included one produced by my brother. To activate it you need to edit the file /etc/pcast/pcastd.conf and change the line that reads us_skin_root /etc/pcast/theme_us/pcast to us_skin_root /etc/pcast/theme_kdw/pcast When you then restart PCast (or reboot the TeraStation) the new theme will take effect. To revert to the original them just reverse the above steps. For more information on how to create new themes for PCast go to the site http://www.linkstationwiki.net and search for pcast. This should bring up the articles on how to play with and alter pcast. If anyone creates any themes they would like to share I would suggest that they should be uploaded to the linkstationwiki downloads area. Another area that would be of particular interest would be if anyone manages to work out a way to alter the Buffalo GUI to give a drop down list of the available themes and the ability to select and activate one so that they can be selected at that level.
